Iceland Airwaves 2015 is coming!

Iceland Airwaves 2015 Final Announcement Video

Iceland Airwaves is an annual music festival held in Reykjavik, Iceland since 1999 featuring new music from both international and domestic. David Fricke from the Rolling Stone magazine once described Iceland Airwaves as "the hippest weekend on the annual music-festival calendar." The acceptance of every music genres makes Iceland music well-known by its viariety and uniqueness, and encourages more new musicians to stand out with their own creativities.  Although they are isolated from the rest of the continents in the world, the diversity of music might be the best you could find so far.
As you the promoted video you've seen above, Sin Fang's new song, Tónlist, along with the sand-visual is inceptional and vocally good enough to convince you to buy tickets right now and wait for the festival in the following two months. For me, the most precious fact of Iceland Airwaves is that they ain't just focusing on head-leading bands, moreover, they give those upcoming bands a chance to stand in fromt of audiences all over the world to perform to enjoy.  If you are interestend in Iceland Airwaves, please click the link below. It's an "Rockumentary" of Iceland Airwaves three years ago.

Even if you couldn't afford the high price of festival pass, don't worry. There are always some off-menu gigs spreading out all over the town in every coffee shops, restautants, and any space they could fit in PA system. It's a living city, country, and also why icelandic musicians kick off the music industry recently.

Here, I want to intorduce you some of my favorite Icelandic music.
Don't hestitate buying tickets to experience the once in a life time surprise!

Gus Gus is founded in 1995 in Reykjavik, Iceland and well-known for its electronic mixing house music genres. With technically complicated synthesizers, four band members create gus gus style which never let audience down during live performances. The video above shows you  Gus Gus performing live in KEX Hostel in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves 2011. The dubsteps sort of style combining dreamish vocals would take you off land to a wonderland where you could dance all day.

Dikta, another recognible Icelandic band, with a strong rock'n'roll style, always boils hyper-atomsphere in every gig they've played. They've attended several music festival but the most important/ powerful performance in front of a packed venue during Iceland Airwaves did kick off their future to international. Then luckily, Rough Trade saw their potential and distributed their third album. Dikta wants you to know that Icelandic people could make awesome rock music as well!

FM Belfast is an electro-pop band from Reykjavik, Iceland. In my own opinion, they absorb the we-want-as-more-members-on-stage-as-possible performing style from Arcade Fire and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and master it better in their own way. The performance above is one of their best on-stage gigs ever, even recommended by Beach House. FM Belfast always have the power to enthuse audiences to dance around with them and you would want them to have more members on stage to mess around the whole show!

If you are fond of the music in the Iceland Airwaves 2015 final announcement video, then you must have to know the person who make it - Sin Fang, an Icelandic folk-pop artist, aka "Sindri Már Sigfússon" from Seabear. In "Look at the Light", you could find peaceful and inharmony ambience existing in different parts, also using violins in bridge to smoothe other instruments down and to bring listener to another level with him singing "follow me" in the very end.

Listening to Pascal Pinon is like discovering another planet of intimacy and loveliness. Normal composition can't support the twin's uniqueness, only with a series of floating notes could bring them to the wonderland they dream of. Find an quiet afternoon, letting yourself soak in Pascal Pinon's magicland to discover your true self in their music.

Sóley has always been my favorite female musician of all time. Not only because of her unique voice, but her own way of composing that no one could ever copies her works. This video shows Sóley performing in KEX Hostel during Iceland Airwavs 2011, and I love the loop she put on all over this song. You won't find a bunch of complicated instruments in her composition, but once you listen to her music carefully, you would find the world Sóley creates with love and caring.

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you enjoy my introduction of some profounding Icelandic musician, and hope to see you one day in Iceland Airwaves for the real experience of more aesthestic music!
